About Modesty Matters the Owners
This company was founded by mother necessity...and two like-thinking families with precious girls (and precious boys).
Dan Carmichael is an IU grad with a degree in Business Administration and a wonderful, varied experience-based skill set to accompany it. His primary interests include leading his family in worship, roasting his own coffee, and entrepreneurship. Dee is an NIU graduate and home schooling, stay at home mother of 7. She has an array of hobbies, from playing the oboe, (which you hear in all of our videos) to wheat grinding and of course, sewing. The Carmichaels have recently moved to southern Indiana. There, they have room for their kids to run. The older boys gain new responsibilities in the form of cutting wood to keep the furnace stoked year round and soon will experience the snow! Within the year, the Carmichaels hope to be joined by both sets of grandparents.
Martin Whelan is a UCF grad with a Double E degree (for those of you in the field, you know that has almost nothing to do with what he is doing now). A former competitive Olympic weightlifter, he is now also a personal trainer on the side. Jennifer is also a UCF college graduate and taught middle-school math & science before becoming a stay-at-home mom. Now, she teaches her 4 children at home while keeping her certificate up-to-date with continuing teacher education. She enjoys playing with photography, scrapbooking, quilting, and sewing; and loves a day at the beach with family.
Both families want their little girls to look like little girls and young ladies; and in order to do that, needed to create their own wardrobes. Out of having been complimented by many other like-thinking adults, and having been asked to do the same for them, this company was born. Throughout 2009, Modesty Matters shifted from manufacturing to teaching using a multi-sensory approach for maximum success.
Modesty Matters, LLC is a home-based business with multiple resources focused on creating modest clothing styles for today's young ladies and girls, as well as enabling others to do the same through simple, step-by-step "how-to" video lessons, patterns & instruction kits, available on CD-ROM and/or DVD, or by simple download (aka digital download). We make sewing SIMPLE!
